The Litany Against Fear
Posted on June 12th, 2008 by Devin
I am a big fan of the Dune books by Frank Herbert. One of the more memorable quotes from several places in the books is “The Litany Against Fear”. I think it’s cool so here it is:
I must not fear.
Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear.
I will permit it to pass over me and through me.
And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
Where the fear has gone there will be nothing.
Only I will remain.
- Frank Herbert

Good post… take a look at the cartoons and see if you can blog about one of them.
Thanks for visiting! I’ll check out your cartoons and comment within the next week or so. Take care.
Heya Devin - wow, I’m finding a lot of your posts that are pinging me and prompting me to comment this morning!
I’m a huge proponent of using ideas, concepts and lessons from fiction to help us learn and deal with things in real life - I wrote a post on it way back in 2003 when I was blogging with Divatribe (called ‘Guides and Goblin Kings - Working with Fictional Characters’, and your post here has prompted me to repost it in my meditation blog, with a link back to your blog.
I’ve always loved the Litany against Fear (and in fact, I’ve blogged about it over in my daily-life blog on LJ, although I can’t for the life of me find the link to it now). Mr Herbert knew whereof he spoke with this one… and it’s a great litany for general mindfulness as well.
Blessings
