A Gossip Seprates Close Friends
The title of this entry comes from Proverbs 16:28 (New International Version), which states that “A perverse person stirs up conflict, and a gossip separates close friends”. Gossip is one of the things I truly despise. Gossip is often full of half-truths, misleading words, and bitterness. Even if someone is speaking the truth about someone else, that doesn’t mean it should be communicated.
Spreading gossip causes strife and pain. But worse than spreading gossip is being known as “a gossip”, since this is a person who personifies it.
So it is no wonder that the Bible talks against being a gossip. Gossip is so destructive that even close friends can start to doubt their friendship. Trust is what gets destroyed first.
Keep things to yourself. It might be tempting to gossip, but it will be better for everyone if you don’t.
